KARSAN MARKS STRONG PRESENCE AT UITP SUMMIT IN BARCELONA ON THE PATH OF GLOBAL BRANDING AND ONE STEP AHEAD

Karsan, a Turkish-based bus manufacturer since 1981, is a pioneering brand in the transformation of the public transport sector, which aims to be one step ahead in the mobility of the future.

At the UITP Global Public Transport Summit, held in Barcelona, Karsan was present, with its 6-meter e-JEST, the 8-meter e-ATAK Autonomous, and the 12-meter e-ATA HYDROGEN models.

The UITP Global Public Transport Summit, is an event that brings together passenger transport professionals with the participation of representatives from companies in various fields, operators and exhibitors, who presented the latest solutions and innovations for passenger road transport.

This event attracts attention as the world’s leading event in the sustainable mobility sector and Karsan sees this as an opportunity to establish new connections.  This was the opportunity for Karsan to open the doors to the “Bright Light of the City” theme and present its services and products.

Okan Baş, the CEO of the Karsan company, showed his satisfaction for UITP’s recognition with the Special Appreciation Award, through the e-ATAK Autonomous model, with its innovative technology for public transport. This vehicle was a success and attracted the attention of visitors from various markets, in particular North America, where the company is making its way. The e-JEST model and the e-ATAK stand out in Europe as the vehicles of choice within this segment.

The Autonomous e-ATAK model has enabled new opportunities in Europe and the US, which according to the brand, has made it possible for them to stay one step ahead in the area of autonomous transportation. Additionally, they are also at the top of the industry with their investment in the area of hydrogen technology and the e-ATA HYDROGEN model has the largest range and passenger capacity.

700 Karsan electric buses are in service in 20 different countries, which is a great pride for a European company.

Karsan is the fastest growing brand, in the last year, in Europe. Okan Baş, the CEO of Karsan, announced: «For 3 consecutive years, we have been Europe’s electric minibus market leader with our e-JEST model. With our e-ATAK model we have been at the top of Europe’s midibus market for two years.

«About 90% of Turkey’s exports of electric buses and minibuses are from Karsan, which means we are one step ahead again. We have achieved a growth of 277% by 2022. Karsan was the fastest growing brand in the electric bus market over 8 tons in Europe. By 2022, our share of the electric bus and minibus market reached 6,5%».

Karsan has completely electrified its vehicles in public transport and has electric buses in all sizes, ranging from 6 m to 18 m.

Europe was the brand’s first target, and only then North America. One of the goals set by the brand was to double the sales of its electric vehicles and increase its share of the European market. Two and a half years ago they started operating in Portugal, Luxembourg, Romania and France, where they developed and grew. In Luxembourg they became leaders, in Portugal and Romania they have the largest electric bus fleets, and France is one of their largest markets in Europe.

The focus for 2023 is on Italy, Spain and Bulgaria, newer markets.

Karsan’s major goal is to become a globally recognized brand, Okan Baş concluded: «Our goal for 2023 is to double the sales of our electric vehicles. The journey we started in Canada, in the North American market will continue to the United States and this year we aim to increase our efficiency in North America.

«Karsan is also starting to enter the Japanese market with the e-JEST, which we are very excited about. Being a success in the Japanese right-hand drive market, it is something of great value. This turns out to be another great opportunity for Karsan to enter the right-hand drive market.

«We want to make the Karsan brand global in public transportation and we are moving in that direction. We consider this an important year so that we can continue to expand around the world».
