MITUBISHI MARKS THE RETURN OF THE COLT, THE KEY EUROPEAN SEGMENT
Mitsubishi Motors Europe is fulfilling the second stage of its 2023 European launch program with the introduction of the new COLT, which follows the introduction of the new-generation ASX in March.
Since it was first launched in Europe in 1978, the COLT has sold more than 1,2 million units, spread across its six generations. In this seventh variant, the COLT is based on the Aliança Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi‘s CMF-B platform and will arrive at dealerships in the last quarter of the year, including Portugal.
The new COLT is a vehicle designed for the “urban adventurer” looking for an advanced solution to their individual mobility needs. It is a car designed for exploring the city, offering a stylish design, a range of efficient engines (including a full-hybrid version) with advanced technology, as well as numerous customization possibilities.
«Following the launch of the new ASX in March, the new COLT marks the return of Mitsubishi Motors to Europe’s premier compact vehicle segment and also of an iconic name for the brand», said Frank Krol, Mitsubishi Motors Europe President and CEO.
«With a range of advanced technologies and powertrains, including a hybrid system, the new COLT significantly enhances our product offering».
Design
The new COLT displays a dynamic and modern design, both outside and in the cabin. The front section is sculpted and framed by full LED headlights. The design of the LED daytime running lights (DRL) gives the new COLT a very distinctive presence, reflecting Mitsubishi Motors’ “Dynamic Shield” front end design. On the higher equipment levels, the DRLs are positioned vertically below the headlights, enhancing the vehicle’s dynamic appearance.
Engines
The two engines available from the launch date in the last quarter of 2023 in Portugal will be:
- 1.0 l MPI-T (subject to homologation): gasoline, turbo, multipoint injection and 3-cylinder, with five-speed manual transmission. Power: 90 hp. CO2: 118-121 g/km;
- 1.6 l Hybrid (HEV — subject to homologation): gasoline, two electric motors and a 1,2 kWh battery pack coupled to a multi-mode automatic transmission. Power (combined): 145 hp. CO2: 93-101 g/km.
Safety, convenience and comfort
The new COLT integrates a suite of ultrasonic, camera and radar sensors to provide 360° vision and a full suite of ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) systems on this B-segment model to enhance active safety.
Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Exterior Display Monitor and Automatic High Beam Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Forward Collision Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Parking Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Traffic Sign Recognition are just some of the systems available in the new COLT.
Digitalization and connectivity
In the priority field of safety, the eCall system comes as standard. The new model includes the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity platforms, which can be accessed via the 7″ or 9.3″ capacitive touchscreen, or voice command.
This sound system features New Fresh Air Subwoofer (FAS) technology, an acoustic structure that eliminates the need for traditional enclosures by delivering bass to the cabin via a patented ducting system. It is integrated into the vehicle’s structure on the right side of the trunk. Audio quality is further enhanced by seven channels of custom equalization, speed EQ and Engine Harmonic Enhancements.
The ability to adjust the interior environment of the new COLT is ensured by Multi-Sense technology, with which it is possible to customize the ambient lighting and the instrument panel.
As with the rest of the brand, the new COLT comes with:
- 5-year/100.000 km factory warranty;
- 12-year anti-corrosion warranty;
- 8-year/160.000 km traction battery and capacity warranty;
- 5 years roadside assistance (Mitsubishi Motors Assistance Package).
Production of the new COLT will begin in September at Renault’s plant in Bursa, Turkey, with sales expected to begin in the last quarter of 2023.
